Diabetes is a long-term health condition that occurs when the body is unable to properly regulate blood glucose (sugar) levels. This happens either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, the hormone responsible for controlling blood sugar, or because the body’s cells do not respond effectively to insulin. There are several types of diabetes, with Type 1 and Type 2 being the most common. If left untreated or poorly managed, diabetes can lead to serious complications affecting the heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and other parts of the body. However, with appropriate care, lifestyle adjustments, and medical support, people living with diabetes can lead healthy, active lives.
